Offsides (Coming 2023)
Our final project is upon us, a short opening to a movie using all the techniques that we have learned in the course so far. There are both exciting features, as well as worrisome troubles that have been created through our thinking over the course of the project. We have yet to begin filming the video, but the issues have been able to leak out of the pipes.
Background Info.
Our film opener will revolve around the comedic-sports genre about a football player’s dream to become greater than he is. Motivation for our protagonist is the reason for this scene we are creating, where he dreams about successfully running a play and making a much achieved touchdown, but once he wakes up he completely and utterly ruins the entire team’s chance at winning the game. It establishes what type of movie and mood that the film is trying to convey, we believe this would be a fantastic idea to execute, even with its cliche nature.
Additionally, my partner and I are excited to begin filming this scene. Our creativity and imagination for this project are pouring out of us to ensure we can achieve excellence in the video. I feel especially excited about working with Davin, as he and I can cooperate effectively and critique each other's ideas if necessary. We both understand what we want to create and gain from this project, making the process of co-directing much easier.
Issues
Although I see the positives of making such a film opening, I do have to acknowledge our worries for the video. One being the inconveniences that arise from having to film, including finding a date and time for our actors to show up on the scene, what to wear, weather, proper natural lighting, and whether the actual plot and actions would look genuine and easy to follow on camera. Getting multiple actors to show up on a single day proves difficult, especially because they may be busy with other activities at the time. We also have the issue that the idea of the film may just not work as well as we wanted it to. There are simpler things to film, such as a serial killer invading a home or someone washing dishes, which is not what we want to necessarily do. We dream big, we film big. All we can hope for is that it all turns out alright post-production.
Conclusion
Davin and I hope the project turns out to be successful, especially because of how well we can work with one another. There are issues to consider before filming that need to be assured will not happen, but others may just happen without our noticing. However, we are both ready to work through the grime, and create a film opening that will provide insight into our creative thinking.
